Throwback Thursday To Down Shift Issue #003

As I look back it was a great shoot, we were a bunch of college kids who were finally figuring things out, unlike issue 001 or 002 we had an idea what worked and we were quickly learning what didn't.

down_shift_magazine_issue_03_2004_kerianna_300px_02This Throwback Thursday we take a trip way back to July 2004 and the feature photoshoot for our 3rd issue of Down Shift Magazine. We shot three very different Porsche 911 turbos in Tampa’s Channelside district with experienced models Pearl Nalani and Kerianna both of whom were awesomely professional and took everything in perfect stride. Mike Coates was behind the lens and really caught some amazing imagery on that summer afternoon. This was our first all DSLR shoot and we’ve never looked back sense.

As I look back it was a great shoot, we were a bunch of college kids who were finally figuring things out, unlike issue 001 or 002 we had an idea what worked and we were quickly learning what didn’t. Keeping things more simple with less shooting locations and outfit changes for the models was showing it’s merits and I was learning to keep the car owners occupied and out of the shoot, an often overlooked skill looking back on 10 years of doing this.

Credit to my amazing (now) wife Laura Maddrey who in the early days handled all of the hair and makeup as well as being our resident creative director and sole designer. She did so much with so little and really put our early models at such ease while working with a bunch of early to mid twenty-something guys.
