Aaron Paul has been cast to play the lead in DreamWorks Studios action film “Need for Speed,” it was announced today by DreamWorks’ President of Production, Holly Bario. Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”) is attached to direct, and the project has a target production start date for early next year and a theatrical release on February 7, 2014.

Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul signs up for the rapdily-accelerating Need For Speed movie… Quicker than you can say Fast & Furious, the pieces of the planned Need For Speed movie have been continuing to move into place. The film will be based on the long-running EA videogame series, and basically sounds like an excuse for very fast cars, that don’t happen to be driven by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.
In fact, it sounds like they’re going to be driven by Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul, who has signed up for the lead role in the Need For Speedmovie. Elsewhere, Scott Waugh has agreed to direct, following up his hit movie Act Of Valor. George and John Gatins have penned the script.
The plan is to have the film before the cameras next year, with a February 7th 2014 release date planned. That way, it’ll avoid Fast & Furious 6 (2013), and presumably Fast & Furious 7 (2015).
More news on Need For Speed as we get it. What has the “Fast” franchise taught us? If it hits big, expect sequels…
