Typically, when an automaker and a watchmaker team up, it’s to spec out a special-edition watch, but Lamborghini and Blancpain have already done that. The two marques are also behind the Super Trofeo racing series, which Lamborghini claims is the fastest spec racing series on today’s circuits. The season just wrapped up at Vallelunga, where the two companies took the wraps off the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Blancpain Edition.
The special-edition Lambo is distinguished from the standard model with such unique touches as a vented engine cover and a big rear wing, along with carbon fiber parts, Skorplus wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes. A matte black finish with yellow accents further set its apart inside and out. The most interesting spec however, is the Blancpain Edition’s weight; at 2954 pounds, Sant’Agata lauds it as the lightest vehicle in Lamborghini’s roadgoing range. Couple that with the 5.2-liter V10 boosted to 570 horsepower (like the spec racers) and Lambo claims a 3.4-second sprint to 62 mph from a standstill, topping out a hair under the double-century mark.
The alliance between Blancpain and the iconic luxury sports car maker Lamborghini celebrates the technical performances and exclusive aesthetics of two manufacturers at the peak of their art combining tradition and innovation. The two brands move in different circles, but are driven by a common passion for innovation and excellence. Just like our master-watchmakers, Lamborghini’s engineers are in constant pursuit of perfection.
In 2012, Lamborghini and Blancpain launched a series in Asia to run alongside the established European competition. In 2013, the series will continue in the US. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo provides an exclusive platform for Gentlemen drivers entering individually or in teams of two to compete at the wheel of the bespoke Lamborghini Super Trofeo race car. The gentlemen drivers are divided into two categories: amateurs and pro-amateurs. Each race weekend is organized with one qualifying race and two 50-minute official races. In 2013, the drivers will discover a new race car, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo.
In 2013, the friendship between the two brands is consolidated by Blancpain’s participation as main sponsor of the 50th anniversary of Automobili Lamborghini. Blancpain will be present at various international events marking this anniversary year, of which the highlight will be the Grande Giro Lamborghini 50° Anniversario. From May 7th to 11th 2013, hundreds of supercars will be driven through Italy’s most beautiful cities, on their way to Lamborghini’s native home in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
