First 2022 Acura NSX Type S Sells For $1.1 Million at Mecum

Proceeds from this charitable auction benefited multiple organizations.

During Mecum Auctions’ Monterey Car Week event, they had the opportunity to auction off the 2022 Acura NSX Type S VIN 001. The winning bidder happened to be none other than Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and chairman & CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group. If you’re familiar with the auctioning off of VIN 001 automobile, you would know that more often than not Rick Hendrick is the one to put in the winning bid. For this NSX Type S, his winning bid ended up being $1.1 million. All proceeds from this event will benefit multiple charitable organizations, including the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) to support STEAM youth education in the United States. This lot alone will allow the organization to provide children with more than 20,000 COSI Learning Lunchbox STEAM Kits, each of which is filled with educational activities and resources.

Set to make its global debut on August 12, the 2022 NSX Type S is the best performing road-legal Acura NSX ever, delivering quicker acceleration, sharper cornering, and an even more emotional driving experience than the electrified supercar ever has before. In celebration of the final year of NSX production, just 350 of these exclusive supercars will be available worldwide, with only 300 to be offered in the United States, all but one of which will be available to order: Serial No. 001. The first NSX Type S ever available outside of Japan, Serial No. 001, will be up for auction at Mecum’s Daytime Auction in Monterey on August 14, with net proceeds from the sale of the exclusive supercar benefiting charity, including an innovative STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) education program for underserved youth nationwide in partnership with the Center of Science and Industry (COSI).

Every 2022 Acura NSX produced at the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio will be a Type S model. With its twin-turbo V-6, the limited-edition supercar is the ultimate expression of Acura’s commitment to Precision Crafted Performance and the third high-performance Type S model the performance brand has introduced this year. The 2022 NSX Type S firmly establishes Type S as Acura’s performance halo.

When the 2022 NSX Type S Serial No. 001 offer comes up for auction on August 14 at The Daytime Auction, it will serve as a unique opportunity for the highest bidder by allowing that individual to not only claim ownership of the first NSX Type S available outside of Japan but also to decide the exact specifications for this Serial No. 001 car. And on top of the ownership of an exclusive supercar, the highest bidder can also take pride in knowing that their money is going to a good cause, with the proceeds set to help provide more than 20,000 award-winning COSI Learning Lunchbox STEAM Kits filled with educational activities and resources to at-risk and in-need students and families across the country.
